Consumer Protection Bill, 2018 was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, (The Minister for of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution) to replace old Act of 1986. The bill has been imposed in the wake, as the previous Act was not able to cope up with the frequent change the market is going under through, for example, the emergence of global supply chains, rise in international trade and the rapid development of e-commerce have led to new delivery systems for goods and services, and have provided new options and opportunities for consumer, and therefore calls for new rules. Also, the bill aims to aid the government to keep a watch on the development in the e-commerce market.
