The Allahabad HC has taken notice of the rampant corruption prevalent in all rungs of society especially within the government sector and bemoaned about corruption and dishonesty within the system. A petition was filed by Mr. Narendra Kumar Tyagi alleging a possible fraud in the process of allotment of a 200-square meter plot in the defence conclave yojana in Kankadkheda in Meerut. He argued that even though he was the sole bidder, his bid was rejected, and someone else’s name was put on the list.
The Court allowed the petition and regarded entire process as a ridiculous farce and full of fraudulent manipulations and misrepresentations. It lamented over the lack of an appropriate scheme to encourage and protect an honest man or a man of integrity in the society. It also pointed out the lack of any effective system of sanctions and punishment against the corrupt and dishonest people. The court said that in the modern times, corruption is not restricted to simple manipulation or mischief rather with the development of technology, it has taken up various other facades and amounts to a complex set of erasures and connivances aimed at benefiting the corrupt individuals.
In the present case, it ordered the vigilance department to undertake investigation and submit its report within 3 months. It then called for departmental and criminal action against all the erring parties in this case. It directed the Meerut development authority to pay an amount of Rs 500000 as costs to the petitioner.
