Three extra weeks were granted by a special court in Mumbai to the liquor baron, Vijay Mallya, to file his reply on the application made by Enforcement Directorate, to declare him a fugitive economic offender under a new law. The time limit given is September 24 after which the court will decide on the hearing.
On August 27 the court gave a time till September 3 as the next date if hearing in response to the other parties petition pertaining to the alleged default of Rs 9000 crore of bank loans. The same Court issued him a notice to appear before August 27 after the Enforcement Directorate had filed an application to declare him fugitive under the new law. The central probe agency sought for the immediate confiscation of assets worth of Rs12500 crore as a latest action. The court had previously issues non bailable warrants against him. The businessman is contesting his extradition case in London filed by the Government of India, on behalf of CBI and ED.
