The Supreme Court agreed to hear a petition filed by the Federation of Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Rajasthan and alleged the non compliance of counselling and admission process for admissions to nearly 500 seats on dental colleges across Rajasthan. The Bench comprising Chief Justice DipakMisra, Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice AM Khanwilkar agreed to hear the petition on Friday and the petitioner was organised by advocate Shivam Singh.
The petition states that although Regulation 2(5) of the Dentist Act, 1948 allows the authorities to make suitable relaxations in the minimum marks requirement for admission to BDS Course, the authorities are ignoring their statutory duties to modify these cut off scores. In a similar scenario earlier that state had reduced the minimum required NEET percentile to an extent of 15 percentile to fill the dental colleges across the country. The Dental Council of India also recommended the reduction of NEET percentile byn10 percentile . The petition contends that even though the Centre had made a clear rejection of the DCI's suggestion on the grounds that there were sufficient number of students to fill the seats, 7000 seats are lying vacant. The petition is in response to an order by which the Apex Court heavily rebuked the state of Bihar for delaying the admissions. The apex court also safeguarded the interests of the stake holders in the admission process.
