Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari was pulled by the Supreme Court today for breaking the lock of a sealed house in Northeast Delhi’s Gokulpuri last Sunday. In response to the contempt notice issued on September 19, Tiwari appeared in person along with his lawyer senior advocate Vikas Singh where he was directed to file an affidavit within three days, not only explaining his act but also giving proof pertaining to a statement given by him to a TV channel, saying that there are 1000 other illegal properties in the area which was not sealed but “this particular” property is being selectively targeted.
Justice Madan B Lokur, heading the the bench also comprising of Justices Deepak Gupta and Abdul Nazeer, told Tiwari to list the 1000 properties which should be sealed and he’ll be made the sealing officer. Fixing the next date of hearing as October 3, Justice Lokur asked him to include all that he has to say in the affidavit. The Supreme Court, acting on the report filed by the court-appointed monitoring committee, directed the sealing drive against illegal construction and unauthorized mixed land and initiated criminal contempt proceeding against Tiwari.
The property in question was sealed by the EDMC for allegedly running an illegal dairy on the premises and the SC order came after the monitoring panel recommended the honorable court to take stringent action against anyone found obstructing the sealing process by taking them into custody. After an FIR was against Tiwari on Tuesday by the Delhi Police for intentionally and deliberately violating SC directions, Tiwari visited the same neighborhood, trying to break the seal, terming the corporation’s action unlawful.
