Justice MB Lokur, Supreme Court judge, has been appointed as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority of India (NALSA), along with Justice Gogoi’s appointment as the Chief Justice of India. The responsibilities attached to being the Executive Chairman of NALSA are taken up by the senior-most judge after the CJI. An alumnus of Delhi’s Modern School and St. Stephen’s College, Justice Lokur enrolled as an advocate in 1977 and has had vast experience in Criminal, Civil, Constitutional, Revenue and Service laws.
He served as the Additional Solicitor General for India from July 1998 to February, 1999, and got elevated to an Additional Judge of Delhi High Court in February, 1999. He took charge as the Chief Justice of Gauhati HC from June 2010 to November, 2011 and then as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh HC. He was elevated to the SC in June, 2012, and will be serving as a judge till 30 December this year.
