According to the latest news, Alok Verma has been ceased from the post of being the CBI Director under Section 4A(1) of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act (DSPE Act) by the selection Committee today.
The Selection Committees panel included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mallikarjun leader of the opposition and Justice AK Sikri following Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.it has been believed that Verma has been removed by 2:1 majority with Modi and Justice Sikri favouring his removal.
The orders of the Central Governmnet andCentral Vigilance Commission as to dispossess the powers of Verma as CBI Director was set aside by the Supreme Court just yesterday. Through the proceedings of the court ordered the selection committee to reconsider Alok Verma’s issue and desist from taking any policy decision.
On October 2018, after the approval of leave of Alok Verma, this case reached the Supreme Court.
On the midnight of October 29, notices were issued by DoPT and CVC announcing his exit.
CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana was also dispersed from his powers through the same notice. It was an unexpected decision by the Supreme Court as this issue came up because of the rift between Verma and Asthana.
