A petition was filed seeking the Supreme Court that Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palaniswami has a role in the robbery case at the Kodanad Estate which is of former CM Jayalalitha which took place during April 2007. CJI Gogoi and Justice Khanna has not entertained the petition and dismissed it.
CJI has ordered for inquiry stating that “somebody with says that CM has committed a crime and CM says he has not done it. What’s wrong in it?” The party has sought permission for withdrawal of case for which the bench has rejected the withdrawal stating “it will create further confusions”.
Based on the statements of Mathew Samuel the petition was filed, he is a journalist who formerly was an editor in Tehelka. Mathew released a video of 16-minutes on January 11th which showed that the two accused persons of the robbery case-Sayan and Manoj stating that CM was the mastermind behind the attempt of robbery and subsequent killings which took place.
On April 23, 2017 the Kodanad estate’s security guard was murdered during the attempt of robbery by 10 members who was later arrested. It later on came into light that Jayalalitha’s driver C Kanagaraj and Sayan has plotted the crime after which in a separate road accident Kanagaraj and Sayan’s wife and daughter were killed and there was another employer’s dead body which was a case suspected as suicide.
The petition stated that the case should be transferred to CBI from the Tamil Nadu police as it is the case of CM which makes it just and necessary for Court to transfer and Ramaswamy has also alleged that the police were trying to destroy the evidence. A defamation suit was filed by Palaniswami in Madras High Court against Mathew Samuel and his associates for which the High Court on Wednesday has passed an interim order restraining the parties from making any further statements linking CM and the robbery case.
