11 Lawyers were imposed a fine of Rs10,000 by Bar Council of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry for erecting huge digital banners and hoardings marking their enrolment which is in violation of Bar Council rules.
The decision was taken by the council's special committee comprising Senior Advocate R. Singaravelan and Advocate N Chandrasekharan.
The committee stated that, “posters were placed all around the High Court and many other places as if they had done some great work to the nation or has served the poor like Jayachandran of Vyasarpadi. This kind of act would create fear and confusion in minds of common people. It is very painful to note that even before the commencement of their profession they have behaved in such a manner creating ugly atmosphere," the committee was quoted as saying.
The committee has directed the lawyers to tender an apology and pay an amount of Rs10, 000 fines and until such conditions are fulfilled their enrolment is kept in abeyance.
New upcoming lawyers were also warned by the committee that nothing of against over the top celebrations for their enrolment is done, "The enrolled advocates should not burst crackers and beat drums or cause mental as well as the physical threats as if someone has passed away. Everyone knows that the enrolment is a holy ceremony and not a funeral ceremony.
