Justice Valmiki Mehta, a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, passed away on March 1. Expression of condolences by Judges, Advocates, Bar Association occurred at the Full Court Reference organized for the sad demise of Justice Mehta. The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Rajendra Menon said that the judiciary lost a stalwart who had no parallel. The mourning family members, Senior Advocates and junior members of the bar were also present at the ceremony. Former High Court Justice Kailash Gambhir and Manmohan Singh were also present.
Justice Menon shed light on the uncompromising nature and firmness of Justice Mehta. He said that Justice Mehta delivered judgements swiftly and upheld the rule of law. Everyone acknowledge the clarity of thought and uprightness of Justice Mehta. While bidding farewell, Additional Solicitor General Maninder Acharya said that it would be difficult to forget Justice Mehta, and he would live through his judgements. Standing Counsel of NCT of Delhi said that Justice Mehta was a human incarnation of the SCC online. Justice Mehta said, “The song has ended, melody lingers on”.
Chairman of Bar Council of Delhi KC Mittal said that Justice Mehta was an inspiring personality to the young lawyers. Delhi High Court Bar Association President Kirit Uppal uttered that the demise of the judge was a cruel joke on the Delhi High Court.
