The Karnataka HC in the matter of S.L. Rajappa V. State of Karnataka upheld the decision of trial court which sentenced Advocate S.L. Rajappa with life imprisonment for murdering fellow lady advocate in the court corridor by stabbing her with knife multiple times on her chest and neck.
The incident occurred in 2010 where the accused advocate stabbed the deceased in grudge for turning down his proposal to marry him. The accused was obsessively in love with the deceased and wanted to marry her to which she agreed earlier but later denied. This betrayal on the part of deceased led him to stab her. The lady advocate got grievous injuries which led to her death on spot. The accused later attempted to suicide but was saved by the police intervention.
The trial court earlier held him liable for murder under IPC which decision is currently upheld by the Karnataka HC. The court in its decision said that all the evidence proves the guilt of accused beyond the reasonable doubt and thereby finds no reasons for it to interfere or modify the sentence part of the impugned decision of trial court.
