The Delhi High Court granted four months to the CBI to complete the probe of the bribery case involving the agency’s former special director Rakesh Asthana. The extension of time for the probe was granted against Asthana, DSP Devender Kumar and middleman Manoj Prasad by Justice Mukta Gupta.
In January a 10 week period was assigned to complete the probe. However, CBI approached the Court after the 10 week period. Rakesh Asthana was booked for criminal conspiracy, corruption and criminal misconduct under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act. Devendra Kumar was arrested on the allegations of forgery. He was the investigating officer in the case before involving meat exporter Moin Qureshi. He was accused of forgery recording the statement of Hyderabad-based businessman Sathish Babu Sana, who had allegedly paid bribe to get relief in the case.
