In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the CBI has gives clean chit to Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and his sons Akhilesh Yadav in a disproportionate assets case.
The Central Investigating agency in its affidavit, says it conducted a preliminary enquiry and found that the allegations of disproportionate assets could not be substantiated and the enquiry was closed after submitting a report to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in 2013.
CBI in its recent affidavit filed before the SC Bench stated that “No prima facie evidence of commission of offence was found during enquiry and the enquiry was not converted into and FIR”. The case with CBI was registered back in 2007 when a petition was filed in SC by Adv. Vishwanath Chaturvedi after which the SC had directed the agency to conduct a preliminary enquiry into the charges.
The SC earlier had also directed probe against Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh but the enquiry against her was dropped later by the Court allowing her review petition on the finding that she was not holding any public office. The CBI also informed the Court that the preliminary enquiry was closed in 2013 on finding no evidence for supporting the allegations that they had amassed wealth beyond known sources of income. The current affidavit was filed in response to the direction from the Court on March 25 regarding the status of the case explained that it did not find any evidence to register a Regular Case against the Yadavs.
