Supreme Court gave permission to Ghulam Nabi Azad to travel to Jammu and Kashmir. A bench comprising of Hon'ble Chief Justice Mr. Ranjan Gogoi, Justice S A Bobde and Justice S A Nazeer held that Ghulam Nabi Azad is free to interact with people during his visit to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Apex Court on monday granted permission to Congress Leader to visit Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramullah and Jammu districts to inquire about the welfare of the people in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress leader assured the court that he is not going to visit his home or to create any rally or event just going to inquire about the people of the state. The bench was headed by the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, and also the arguement put forward by the counsel appearing on the side of Ghulam Azad was that he is going there to interact with people about their welfare and hence the court granted him permission to do so.
The Congress party leader said that it would be a 'Humatarian' Trip to reach out to the common people of the valley and upon his return he will submit a report to the Apex Court, the Congress leader also accused the state and the centre that they are not at all concerened about the common people and he is concerened about the line of communication disturbed in valley that how the common people are earning their living it is very difficult for them as there is no contact with the outside world. He also asked permission from the court to check the social atmosphere in the valley after article 370 of Constitution of India, 1950 was struck down and the order to bifurcate into two Union Territories was passed. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said he will visit Srinagar "if necessary" and will oversee the functioning of the High Court. This came up after allegations that the high court was not accessible for litigants.
The Supreme Court of India is hearing various petitions after the scraping down of the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Article 370 of the Constitution of India, 1950. In a separate notice the court has issued a statement to the centre regarding the detention of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, and directed the centre to regulate normalcy to be restored in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
