The farm fire incidents have not been abated despite the efforts of Punjab Government, apparently. According to the reports of Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, (PRSC )officials said while eight incidents each were reported in Amritsar and lake Taran on Mon, three cases in Gurdaspur, and two cases each were reported in Mansa and Patiala. “One case each was reported from other state districts,” said senior scientist PRSC, Anil Soodte (PRSC) more than 27 stubble burning and approximately more than 278 this year, same as the number of cases last year with no improvements. The remote sensing team of PRSC have been investigating the cases of Stubble farming since September 23, 2019 , according to the data there are more than 610 cases of farm witnessed in the starting of the year till October 7, 2019 and with change or any improvement in the fire cases the statistics remains same for the year 2018 and 2019 with 258 farm fire cases. 90 of the farm fire cases were reported ( in a single day) on October 7, 2017 while on the other hand 112 farm fire cases were reported on October 7, 2018 and only 27 on Monday October 7, 2019 . According to the experts of Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) many of the farmers were setting fire on their fields for the sowing of the potato.
Government agencies were expecting farm fires to continue as was common once. Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh was heckled once he urged farmers to shun chaff burning and prefer happy seeder throughout Kisan Mela at PAU on September twenty one. Chief agriculture Officer ( Ludhiana) Baldev Singh stated apart registering a case under a criminal offence , the National Green Tribunal(NGT) have also considered this matter as a serious issue. A fine ranging from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 15,000 will be imposed on the offender depending upon the area set on fire, according to the data there were approximately 55 farmers who were penalized in Ludhiana District for Farm ( Stubble) burning.
