Angered by the inability of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) to shift the slaughterhouse to a new location despite given time given on many occasions, on tuesday the Bench of National Green Tribunal ordered immediate close down of the slaughterhouse of the facility at Jinsi. Counsel appearing from the side of the petitioner Ayush Vajpayeestated that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Judges While ordering the closure of the slaughterhouse at Jinsi observed "Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) beigh allowed to run the old slaughterhouse at Jinsi also observed order to shift the facility outside the city limits seriously, they are buying time for one order or pretex. Let the facility at the slaughterhouse in Jinsi be closed so that the BMC will take the subject matter more seriously from now on wards".
The Observation came after the counsel from the side of BMC said thet the BMC does not have any political support or ties to support its plan and shifting out the order bt the National Green Tribunal, in the previous hearing on July18, 2019 the BMC counsel in the presence of the BMC Commissioner told the Green Bench Tribunal that the location for the shifted slaughterhouse has been decided and is been under construction but no firms shows any kind of interest for the tender of the slaughterhouse, the National Green Tribunal while accepting the BMC's proposal asked the state government to deposit Rs. 5 Crore towards the performance guarantee.
On August 31, 2016 it had allowed for the redemption of the slaughterhouse for 18 months, after the state government said that it will give the undertaking for the new slaughterhouse near the stud farm after asking the Green bench to deposit the performance guarantee of one crore and also imposing a fine of Rs. 10,000 on daily basis till the slaughterhouse is shifted to the new location. The amount of the penalty has been gone up by Rs. 47.50 Lakh and the BMC authorities have not paid it yet.
