The Amicus Curiae, appointed in a plea for re-opening of Mahatma Gandhi Assassination case tells the Supreme Court today that there is no fresh evidence which points towards a “second person firing a fourth bullet”.
Saran said that he examined all documents including 4000 pages of the Trial Court documents and the Jeevan Lal Kapur Inquiry Commission Report but has not found any evidence about a second person filing a fourth bullet. In his view, there is “no ground to re-open the assassination case”. On October 6, the Supreme Court had put some questions on a plea seeking reopening of the investigation which said there was a second assassin who fired the “fourth bullet” with respect to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
After a brief hearing, a Bench comprising Justices S.A Bobde and L. Nageswara Rao had appointed senior advocate and former additional solicitor general Amrender Sharan as amicus curiae to assist the Court in the matter. The petition filed by Mumbai based Dr. Pankaj Phadnis, a trustee of Abhinav Bharat, has sought reopening of the probe on several grounds, claiming it was one of the biggest cover-ups in history.
