Representing Indian Parliamentary Delegation in Seychelles, Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan graced the ‘Pravasi Bhartiya Celebrations’ held in Victoria which was jointly organized by Indian Association of Seychelles and High Commission of India in Seychelles on January 10. The Lok Sabha speaker along with the delegation had reached Victoria, Seychelles to attend the 24th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth (CSPOC) that lasted for four days i.e. January 8-11, 2018.
The Speaker emphasized upon the extraordinary contributions made by the Indian Nationals to the island nation of Seychelles. She further added that Indian Diaspora present in Seychelles is one of the strongest across the world and is of strategic importance. It has culminated into strong relationships and cultural ties between the two countries. Smt. Mahajan touted the entire Indian Diaspora present across the globe as the true ambassador of Indian culture and discipline on foreign land. Smt. Mahajan further took this opportunity to urge Indian Nationals and Overseas Indians to come and make investments in the form of skills, services and finance under the schemes like ‘Make in India’ and other avenues of national importance. She mentioned about the initiative by the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to commemorate and appreciate the achievement of Indian Diaspora on January 9 every year as Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas.
She emphasized upon the importance of parliamentary delegation visits between the two countries in strengthening their bilateral relations. She further committed to support Seychelles in establishing Parliamentary Museum and putting in place an effective mechanism for telecasting of parliamentary proceedings as has been functional in India.
