To check the actual number of cases of coronavirus or COVID-19,Cabinet Minister Rajiv Gauba, leader of COVID-19 crises management group wrote to the states and Union Territories that, there was a gap between the actual monotoring of international passengers for COVID-19 and the total arrivals from abroad. He further said that it is very necessary to fill the gap so that the government can come to know the actual number of coronavirus cases. He stressed that urgent action is to be taken to ensure that passengers not on the radar are placed under surveillance immediately so that the necessary precautions can be taken to halt the coronavirus from spreading further.Rajiv Gauba in his letter said that the Bureau of Immigration has shared details of more than 15 lakhs of incoming international passengers. The centre had started screening of incoming international passengers at airpot from January 18 and On 23rd March Bureau of Immigration has shared details of more than 15 lakhs passengers. He further said that there appears to be a gap between the number of international passengers who need to be monitored by states and Union Territories and the actual number of passenger being monitored.
Rajiv Gaubha also said that this gap will halt the efforts made by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19,so there is a urgent need to put those passengers under close surveillance who had not been monitored at the airpot. He further said that Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has repeatedly emphasised the importnace of monitoring, and requested the states and Union Territories to take immediate steps in this regard. The Cabinet Secretary also urged the chief secretaries to actively involve the district aunthorities in this effort.
There had been many cases of people skipping quarantine or hospital visits after returning from abroad. If these people are not put under close surveillance they can put the country to danger by spreading this pandemic.Like a man from punjab and had who died on 26th March due to coronavirus had met a lot of people after returing form a trip to Germany and Italy.Another case is of Kolkata where a teen who returned from london found positive after he showed up to the hospital two days later after his arrival and his mother had also met a lot of people. So to stop the virus from spreading the Cabinet Minister had urged to take immediate actions to track the people who had not been monitored.
