Today our country is facing a very serious problem as the cases of people suffering form novel coronavirus or Covid-19 is increasing day by day.To halt the virus from spreading the central government is taking every necessary step to fight against it.The central government on Saturday ordered that the maximum charge for each Covid-19 test by any private laboratories should not exceed Rs.4,500.According to National Task Force the maximum charge for each Covid-19 test is Rs.4,500 which may include Rs. 1,500 as a screening test for suspect case and an additional 3,000 for confirmation test.The private labs which will be allowed to conduct a Covid-19 tests must have NABL accreditation for real time PCR SA for RNA virus.Government had allowed 35 private labs to conduct Covid-19 tests the cost of which should not be more than Rs.4,500.According to the guidelines on sample collection and testing of the people,the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has called for appropriate biosafety and biosecurity(oropharnygeal and nasal swab) from a suspect patient.Regarding the sample collection the ICMR encourages to collect samples of the patient by visiting their home so that it can avoid the contact of people with the suspect cases.
The person only carrying a prescription from a qualified physician as per the guidelines laid by the ICMR is allowed to get tested at these private labs.The central government had also appealed to private laboratories for free or subsidised testing at this time of national public health emergency.Any person found charging more than Rs4,500 for Covid-19 testing will invite legal consequences against them.Failure to comply with the guidelines of testing will result in legal action as said by Union Health Ministry.According to the guidelines of ICMR each and every private laboratory before starting its activities must ensure immediate and real time reporting of the test results along wirh the details of the patient to the ICMR headquarters data base.Earlier the private laboratories are not allowed to conduct any Covid-19 test but as the cases are increaching day by day the need of private laboratories to conduct Covid-19 tests arise.The guidelines given by the central government will be change from time to time depending on the situation. As per the notification each and every laboratories which are allowed to conduct Covid-19 test will be given a registration number by the Indian Council of Medical Research which should be prominently exhibited in case any advertisement is made and also in the report.
