On Thursday Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh urged the armed forces and public service undertakings (PSUs) to prepare themselves and to provide all required assistance to the civilian authorities to fight against the novel coronavirus during the time of lockdown.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a review meeting with his senior officials of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on its action plan to deal with the situation going in the country.The meeting lasted for more than two hours and the same was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat,Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar and three service chiefs along with Dr G. Satheesh Reddy chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation.During the meeting Rajnath Singh briefed on various assistance provided by the armed forces and he also praised the efforts of armed forces and various departments of MOD who played a proactive role in safely evacuating Indian nationals and foreigners from Covid-19 affected countries.He also lauded them for ensuring all the evacuated people proper care at various quarantine facilities.The Indian Air Force had made several efforts to evacute Indian nationals from effected areas in China,Japan and Iran.The armed forces had also helped in providing training of its own medical personnels at various hospitals to be better prepared for Covid-19.
Armed Forces had played a very important in handling the evacuees at their quarantine facilities.They handled 1,462 evacuees and discharged 389.Presently 1,073 persons are being provided proper care at the armed force quarantine facilities in Manesar,Hindan,Jaisalmer,Jodhpur and Mumbai.More quarantine facilities are on standby with 950 beds capicity.Many departments had helped the country in providing masks and sanitizers to Drlhi Police.Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories had manufactured twenty thousand (20,000) litres of sanitizers and supplied the same to various organisations,including 10,000 litres to Delhi police.Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had also supplied 10,000 masks to people working in Delhi police.DRDO had been also trying with some private companies to make personal protection equipment such as bodysuits and ventilators.Many other organisations had also helped in manufacturing santizers,ventilators,masks and body suits.Like Bharat Electronics Limited is also engaged in manufacturing of ventilators,Ordnance Factory Board had also increased production of sanitizers,masks and bodysuit to avoid shortage of these things in the country.These organisations are taking every possible step to help the country at this time of national health emergency.Armed forces are also asked to set up more quarantine and isolation centres in each military station.
