The Apex Court on Thursday questioned the Uttar Pradesh’s government that why there is a sudden boom in activities in Taj trapezium zone (TTZ) ? They also said that they want a broad document with a futuristic vision to save The Taj Mahal, a 17th century mausoleum which is also one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
TTZ is in an area of about 10,400 square kilometers which spreads over the districts of , Firozabad, Mathura, Hathras and Etah in Uttar Pradesh and Bharatpur in Rajasthan. And prior permission of the Supreme Court is required for any type of construction in this area.
And while referring to the same provision the bench of Justices Madan B. Lokur and Deepak Gupta questioned additional solicitor-general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government, that why hotels and leather industries are coming there when the prior permission of Supreme Court is mandatory for doing such acts. In reply of which ASG Tushar Mehta said that he will ge back to the question after getting the instructions from the government.
The Apex Court also said that ad-hoc measures are not enough to protect The Taj Mahal which was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1631, and a larger perspective is required to be taken by the state government in order to save this World Heritage Site for the future generations. Court ordered the government to submit the reply within four weeks.
