State Innovation & Transformation Aayog (SITA) handed over four impact assessment studies and action plans to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal with a view to help the Assam government in its efforts to restore the state's economy, which is hit by novel coronavirus.
The SITA reports include the Economic Report prepared in collaboration with the OKD Institute for Social Change and Development, Assam's Report on Agriculture and Allied Activities in collaboration with Ernst & Young and Assam 's Report on Industry and Commerce in collaboration with Assam Chambers of Commerce, the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Industry & Commerce of North Eastern Region and Indian Chamber of Commerce.
Chief Minister Sonowal, appreciating SITA's initiative, said the reports would be very useful to direct the Assam Government in rejuvenating the economy of the State. He said that although the lockdown had negatively affected different sectors of the economy, there were sufficient mechanisms in the State to rebuild the economy.
Highlighting the benefit that can be accrued from the recently announced Prime Minister's economic stimulus package worth Rs. 20 lakh crore, the Chief Minister urged SITA to work with the State Finance Department to ensure a visible economic result from this package.
The Chief Minister suggested holding meetings with banks and developing a mechanism for the successful implementation of the package, stating the need to make banks accountable for prompt sanctioning and disbursement of loans to the MSME sector.
