It was a dream come true for Vidya Kamble, when she received a phone call from the secretary of Nagpur District Legal Aid Services. She was informed that she has been decorated as the panel member of the Nagpur District Legal Services. As per Vidya this news is a ‘surprise of lifetime’ as she has been sparring with struggles for the last 13 years. Kamble left her home at the age of 18, when she realized that she is becoming a burden on her family. As her family often tried to hide her true identity. The incident which turned the tables for her was meeting eminent LGBT activist Mr. Anand Chandrani from Sarthi Trust. Mr. Anand gave her proper guidance, it was after that she accepted who she was and joined the transgender community. She added, how being a panelist changed her life and the judges and lawyers have made her feel comfortable. Vidya Kamble said, this was not her win alone. This accomplishment is for the whole transgender society. In her words, “If I can achieve it then other transgender people can also make an attempt”. This development has acted as a trailblazer for the apex court’s judgment regarding rights of transgender. As the Supreme Court in a landmark case has confirmed the transgender as the ‘third gender’ and affirmed to them the fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution.
