The Bar Council of India has taken cognizance of the matter and wrote to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and the commissioner of Police to investigate a shameful incident of heinous rape and attempt to murder of a lady advocate of Jangpura Extension, Delhi. BCI also urged to depute the finest team and officers to investigate in such matter. The letter was written by Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate, Chairman, and Bar Council of India.
The incident took place on 19th May where a stranger covered his face with mask entered forcefully in the lady’s house and raped her after which the advocate was brutally beaten up on being asked for her credit card which she refused to give. The man assaulted her and even tried to kill her.
The Bar Council of India issued a statement in which it said “ Apart from the incident being brutal and unpardonable, what is unfathomable and difficult to comprehend is that when during Lockdown, there is police that guarding the entire city of Delhi, why was there such a laxity and irresponsibility in the vicinity where the crime occurred”.
The report also described about the facts of the case where the victim was standing in the safe confines of her balcony of her house and watching something on her mobile, when the assailant went in her house by jumping the wall of the tenanted house and committed such a heinous crime with the use of a knife. In spite of so much police presence such there is no fear in minds of criminals, official further added.
Manan Kumar Mishra also added in the letter that “We as a fraternity and as citizens also are willing to come forward, and we have to indeed step forward to assist your machinery”. He also expects that the lead should be taken by the police.
He concluded by saying that he urges that the matter is urgently and thoroughly investigated and to arrest the guilty and provide the victim with full security till the criminal is not arrested.
