The Commission is created to provide equal representation to equal parts of the population. It creates an equal division of geographical area to make constituencies. It refrains political parties to take advantage of their area in elections. The commission has been set up four times in India – 1952, 1963, 1973 and 2002 under the respective acts. The ex-officio members of the Delimitation Commission are Retired Supreme Court Judge, Chief Election Commissioner and Respective State Election Commissioners.
