The High Court of Delhi gave the Judicial Enquiry Commission headed by Retired Justice S.P. Garg more time to complete its probe. The committee was formed to probe clash between Advocates and Delhi Police at Tis Hazari Court Complex on 2nd November 2019.
The Enquiry Commission earlier sent a report to the High Court informing about inability to examine all witnesses due to Covid-19 lockdown.
Earlier on 3rd November, the High Court took suo-moto cognizance of the incident which involved lawyers and police officials engaging in a clash which became violent after a cop allegedly opened fire leading to burning of vehicles at Tis Hazari Court complex. The brawl occurred over some parking issue resulting in burning of the vehicles of Delhi Police.
Later the lawyers protested in the court premises on the breach committed by the Delhi Police, even declaring a strike. One of the lawyers was hospitalized after sustaining a bullet injury in the incident.
The commission reported that they have examined around 124 witnesses till date but many are yet to be examined.
The court directed to provide protection to the lawyers in connection with the incident until the enquiry is over.
