A mounting tropical cyclonic storm called Nisarga in the Arabian Sea is coming northwards with a speed of 4 km/hr and is 550 km away at present from Mumbai. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Nisarga is probably to make a landfall between Daman and Harihareshwar in Maharashtra’s Raigad on 3rd June.
The IMD has issued a red alert for 6 other districts – Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Nasik, Nandurbhar and Dhule, between 3rd and 4th June.
A depression and a low pressure are the first two stages used by the IMD to categorize the cyclones on the grounds of their intensity. The depression is probably to strengthen and become fuming and roll into a cyclonic storm in the minute hours of the morning on 2nd June and then into a relentless cyclonic storm by 3rd June.
The coastal parts of Gujarat & Maharashtra might experience heavy rainfall and high speed winds during this time. The fishermen in and around have been asked to not go in the sea. The cyclone tracker by IMD exhibits that Nisarga will be the closest to the Mumbai coast while entering the land.
The profound depression at present is 550 km south –southwest of Mumbai in Maharashtra and 800 km south- southwest of Surat in Gujarat.
