The Indian Meteorological Department has said that the depression over the Arabian Sea is intensifying and will start to pour down in several parts of Maharashtra from June 3 itself.
Mumbai, being a coastal Metropolitan City, is on high alert for the upcoming cyclonic storm Nisarga. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the depression is to shred over Mumbai from Wednesday Afternoon, starting with heavy rainfall across the state of Maharashtra and Goa. It has also been predicted that stormy winds to blow at a speed of 110-120 Kmph. The storm will gain momentum by Wednesday Evening and due to this Arabian Sea Depression, the South of Gujarat is also on High Alert.
The Western Navy Command is all ready for responding to the cyclone Nisarga. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is also prepared to tackle the disaster. The Navy has kept five floods and three dive-in teams in standby mode at Mumbai. NDRF is also prepared for the situation. People have been evacuated who were residing in the coastline. The fishery is also prohibited until further notice from the IMD.
Dr. Anupam Kashyapi from IMD Pune says that Cyclone Nisarga likely to make landfall near Alibaug on June 3. At the time of landfall, wind speed is expected to be 110 Kmph. Palghar, Pune, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Dhule, and Nandurbar, Nashik expected to receive heavy rainfall tomorrow.
The Chief Minister's Office has also issued a report saying that slum dwellers have been moved to a safer place. All the necessary steps have been taken to tackle the aftermath of "Nisarga". Teams have been build to restore phone, electricity, and internet connection just after the cyclone passes over Maharashtra.
Even in this Coronavirus Pandemic Lockdown, two weeks ago, West Bengal and Odisha saw the impact of Cyclone "Amphan" where more than a hundred lives were lost and more than thousands were homeless. Now Maharashtra and Gujarat are waiting to see the impact.
