The High Court of Madras directed all government authorities to provide the welfare schemes which are in vogue including schemes for Covid outbreak to the Additional Advocate General Tamil Nadu. It directed the AAG to collate all welfare schemes and submit its soft copy to the court. The court undertook to place all these schemes in public domain in order to make people aware of these schemes. By knowing about these welfare schemes more and more people will avail benefits out of them by approaching to the concerned authorities.
The division bench was hearing a writ petition contending that benefits under Covid-19 relief schemes has not reached to the unorganised labourers of the state.
The AAG submitted that various welfare schemes by government to ameliorate poverty has indeed benefited labourers and the court even appreciated such effort. For instance, he talked about state govt’s establishment of 15 boards through which 14,07,130 labourers were paid Rs.1,000 each. The second instalment of the same amount was also paid to the same number of labourers.
The court however noted that these welfare schemes are not in public domain, their incorporation in public domain would benefit more and more people.
