Three grenade attacks that came within hours of one another wounded at least four paramilitary troopers and three civilians, including a woman, in Srinagar on 2nd June.
Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a civilian woman were wounded in the first attack in Fateh Kadal's Chinkral Mohalla in Srinagar at 6. Militants lobbed a grenade at a structure housing CRPF's 82 Battalion at Fateh Kadal in the afternoon. The attack happened in the same area where a youth was buried in the morning. The youth came under the wheels of the CRPF vehicle that was negotiating its way through the protesters hurling stones at it outside the mosque after Friday prayers. The area remained tense all day. "In this incident, three CRPF men sustained splinter injuries and evacuated to nearest hospital," CRPF spokesman in Srinagar said. He added that the condition of injured is reported to be stable and they are out of danger. A police official said all the injured suffered splinter wounds. One woman was also among the injured.
In the second attack, militants targeted a CRPF vehicle in Budshah Chowk area near Bridge near Maisuma Lal chowk in Srinagar, injuring a jawan and a civilian, the police said.
A third attack occurred at Magarmalbagh. Nobody was injured in the third attack.
The fourth attack was reported at Mominabad-Batamaloo, although it remains unconfirmed.
The paramilitary force was deployed to maintain law and order in the area. Peace in summer capital Srinagar was torn by these explosions as the militant outfit, Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) owned responsibility for these attacks. Attacks have taken place in Srinagar city during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan when the security forces have suspended operations against the militants in Kashmir to ensure that the people observe the holy month in prayer and penance.
