The Madras High Court has given order to the Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR& CE) authorities to make allowances for insertion of biometric device to administer the entry of temple staffs inclusive of poojaries in the establishment of Tiruchendur Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple situated in Tuticorin. A bench comprising of Justice MV Muralidaran and Justice T Krishnavalli was taking into account of a public interest litigation presented by a worshipper named RS Kalyanasundaram trying to obtain the institution of biometric device in order to prevent the unapproved poojaries from sauntering the temple for organizing special prayers to the devotees. The petitioner also asserted that on a number of occasions he has observed several deformities on behalf of the unapproved Poojaries, who have instituted a conglomerate and are found at the temple entrance and persuade the ingenuous devotees from different parts of the state and country for a ride by endowing them with special worship tickets which is unlawful. Moreover, pointing out that this is done with the assistance of the authorized staff.
The concerned authorities were instructed to notify the authorized poojaries not to behest more money from devotees. The court also directed to make certain that all the devotees should be treated uniformly by the temple authorities beyond any differentiation between the poor and rich since everyone is placed on an equal footing by the supreme power. Moreover, also asked to put up signboards in all the directions of the temple premises and also at the main places of Tiruchendur so that the devotee can be stimulated, thereby, preventing them from the unapproved poojaries either to get access into the temple or for poojas by rendering a special amount which is illegal by every means.
