A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court asking for restricted entry for the overall population and explorers at the Amarnath Yatra, taking into account the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
The plea, filed through Advocate-on- Record Amit Pai has urged the Court to give directions to guarantee that live darshan of the ice lingam and the Yatra is telecasted on TV and the internet to satisfy the religious beliefs of the devotees.
The plea by Shri Amarnath Barfani Langars Organization expresses that in spite of the fact that no proper date for the Amarnath Yatra has been declared so far, the Shrine Board has offered authorizations to a couple of Bhandara associations, to arrive at the scene very latest by June 28, and to begin the administration (Seva) from July 3.
The petitioner expressed that if entry is permitted, it would cause a "serious public health issue in the present pandemic situation."
The method of reasoning behind permitting the Yatra that was held for the current year is additionally addressed.
However, the petition maintains that it is not seeking to cancel the Yatra in totality. The plea states,
"Shrine Board had initially decided on 22.04.2020 to cancel the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2020 for pilgrims/devotees, in order to not put them in the harm's way and to contain the COVID 19 virus. However, within a few hours, the decision was withdrawn. There is no rationale for the withdrawal of the cancellation of the Yatra for the pilgrims."

Nonetheless, the request keeps up that it isn't trying to drop the Yatra in entirety. The plea, which will be heard by a Bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud on July 13, expresses that it brings to the forth the contention between crucial rights ensured under Article 25 and Article 21 read with Article 14. The organization has made it clear that,
"Right to religious freedoms and all other allied fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 25 are duly respected and enjoy the due deference of the Petitioners."
This appeal comes not long after Court permitted the Rath Yatra at the Puri Jagannath Temple with social distancing and other rules in place to forestall the spread of COVID-19.
