A plea has been filed in the Delhi High Court requesting wiping out of Delhi University's online open-book assessment. The appeal, filed by one Anupam, a MA Final year student, informed the court that there has been less presence of students in online classes during the whole lockdown. "In many courses, even syllabus is not complete," the petition added.
Further scrutinizing the online classes, the plea stated: "DU provided a common facility center for people without online resources in their notifications which forwards the notion that DU also agrees on lack of online resources available to all students. Then, how can DU claim to end the syllabus through online classes."
The appeal said that the tests are only a custom and will have an exceptionally terrible impact on the students' outcomes. It likewise expressed that there is no framework to stop "misconduct" in this online test. "The affidavit to be taken from the students is just a formality."
The plea was scheduled to be heard by the court on July 03.
Priorly on June 27, the Delhi University deferred the open book tests for final year students, scheduled to start on July 1, by 10 days taking into account the COVID-19 circumstance. It had said the revised date sheets for all undergraduate and postgraduate programs will be notified on July 3. Instructors and students have been fighting the open book tests referring to issues like non-presence of study material and absence of internet availability in parts of the nation.
Then, the Delhi Court asked the Delhi University for what good reason the contempt procedures be not started against it and its officials for attempting to misdirect the court by retaining data on the postponement of the online open-book tests. A bench of judges Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad was enraged with the varsity for not informing it on June 26, the last date of hearing of a plea challenging the conduct of online tests, about the choice to concede the assessments.
