Lok Pal is a phrase coined by L.M. Singhvi in 1963 copied from Sweden's Ombudsman and the idea was to expose 'maladministration'. It consists of eight members, four judicial members, and four non-judicial members. Jurisdiction of Lok Pal is a central government and it deals with a matter connected with corruption and investigates allegation on the central government for corruption. Following the Jan Lok Pal movement led by Anna Hazare in 2011, the Lok Pal and Lokayuktas Act were passed in 2013. Lok Pal works at the National level and Lokayuktas works at the state level and has the same functions as Lok Pal. Present Chairperson of Lok Pal is former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, and other members are Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Justice Abhilasha Kumari, Shri Dinesh Kumar Jain, Smt. Archana Ramasundaram, Shri Mahender Singh, Dr. Indrajeet Prasad Gautam. On 23rd March 2019 first chairman of Lok Pal was appointed by Committee comprising of P.M. Narendra Modi, (Supreme Court Judge) Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan. And on 27th March 2019 other members were appointed. Lok Pal has the highest power of superintendence and directions over any central investigation agency including the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms, it is a forum where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at the pre-litigation stage are settled/ compromised amicably[1]. It got statutory status under the Legal Service Authority Act, 1987. Lok Adalat is a civil court and its decision is binding on all. No one can file a suit if not satisfied with the decision of Lok Adalat. There are no charges applied to file matters in Lok Adalat. The case which is pending in any court or any dispute filed under any court or any matter which is not a compoundable offense can be filed in Lok Adalat. The government introduced the concept of E-Lok Adalat for speedy justice and to reduce the burden on the judiciary and decrease no. of pending cases. Chhattisgarh becomes 1st state to start with the concept of E-Lok Adalat. The session was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice P R Ramachandra Menon. Hence, Lok Adalat was introduced to decrease the pressure of the judiciary and the number of pending cases in court.
