The Uttar Pradesh Government has appointed a Special Investigation Team, who is lead by Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Bhusreddy, to investigate the criminal activities which were carried out by the famous gangster Vikas Dubey and the steps taken by the authorities to bring him to books following the law. The SIT is also compromised of Additional Director General of Police, Hariram Sharma and DIG Ravindra Gaur, who have been asked to submit its report by July 31, based on following points:
1. What effective actions were taken against Dubey and his aides in connection to the charges criminal pending against him;
2. What steps were taken for cancellation of bail of such a dreaded criminal, having such a detailed criminal history;
3. How many complaints were received against Dubey and what action was taken against him and his associates under the Gangster Act, Gunda Act, NSA, etc?
4. Despite being involved in so many crimes, who and why cleared weapon license for Dubey and his associates;
5. How many police officials came in contact with Dubey in past one year and evidence, if any, regarding collusion among them;
6. Unearth the trail of property, trades, and economic activities illegally acquired by Dubey and his associates and indicate whether the local police displayed any laxity, negligence, or involvement in the same.
The SIT has also been asked to inquiry about the negligence in collecting the information about the availability of weapons with Dubey and his aides; at what level did the incident happen, why was there not sufficient information about it in the police station.
Around 60 criminal cases, including allegations of murder, were pending against Vikas Dubey, who was allegedly killed in a police encounter on 10th July 2020. this incident has given rise to a huge debate around police/ political involvement with the gangster and many representations have been placed before the Supreme Court as well as Allahabad High Court seeking a judicial investigation.
