The partial truce called in the wake of Ramzan has officially ended, as the State announced the resuming of e-based cordon-and-search and search-and-destroy operations in Kashmir.
Union Minister Rajnath Singh took to Twitter and praised the armed forces for showing “restraint” against the tension surrounding targeted attacks such as the one carried out against noted editor of ‘Rising Kashmir’, Shujaat Bukhari. The truce was called to ensure an atmosphere of peaceful fasting but was terminated after Eid. The locals admitted that while militant recruitments had reduced during the truce, there were grenade attacks and targeted attacks against the forces. However, amidst a rapidly approaching Amarnath Yatra, the anti-terror operations have been resumed quickly. Moreover, the BJP also likely resumed the operations as a result of political motives, as the Lok Sabha polls of 2019 are on the horizon. While the BJP maintains that it is open for dialogue with the separatists, the recent attacks have likely reduced their chances.
