Experienced bureaucrats and advisors were appointed by the centre to oversee administrative work in J&K after the exit of Mehbooba Mufti government. BVR Subramanyam, a 1987 batch IAS from Chhattisgarh and erstwhile private secretary to former PM Manmohan Singh has been appointed as the Chief Secretary in place of BB Vyas to assist the governor. He has former experience in internal security at J&K while he was working with the PMO in 2014-15. BB Vyas, former Chief Secretary along with Vijay Kumar, IPS cadre Chhattisgarh, best known for tracking down brigand Veerappan has been appointed as advisors to the governor NN Vohra.
The current focus will be on the enhanced challenge at the security front with immediate corner-stone being the safe conduct of Amarnath Yatra. It has been anticipated that extremists unhappy with the unceremonious fall of the PDP-led government might step up hostile acts during Amarnath Yatra. However, in order to tackle the hostile situations, the next one-and-a-half months will be focused on breaking alliance of terrorists, Hurriyat and some elements of local police who leak information to terror groups. Army and security forces are expected to launch fierce oppositions against terrorists especially to counter tense situations at the LoC and the international border. Simultaneously, the centre’s special envoy Dineshwar Sharma will continue engaging different groups for peace talks.
Along with security operation, there are plans of quickening the development works as well. It is assumed that due to the direct rule of the governor, the decision making will be quicker and more effective. The governor’s rule being free of political interference will not have any impact on the anti-terror operations in place. A muscular strategy with new appointments and fresh approaches is set to take a roll in J&K.
