A step towards development for Indian Courts, Judges to refer computers and tablets for case files and petitions, increasing technological usage.
Soft-copies to be filed of the petitions attached with documents with the Supreme Court Registry ordered by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, along with the hard copies that are present to date.
On 27th July the circular was released with the direction further stating to Advocates-on-Record and Parties-in-person the following:
"in addition to the Hard Copy to be filed at the filing counter, will be required to file a soft copy of the petition and the accompanying documents."

It was a massive move towards Indian Court development, with an increase in usage of technology by the judges, referring to petition and case files during hearings. It also added the beginning of the virtual hearings since March 23.
On the same day of July 27, a follow-up circular was released further denoting the case filed through e-filing mode the cut-off printing charges from Rs. 1.05 per page to 0.75 paise per page ie, from Rs. 6 for four copies to Rs. 3 for four copies.
Further stated that the AOR and Parties-in-person need to upload the e-case files on the specific apex court email id ‘soft.petition@sci.nic.in’. the circular further readout:
“An undertaking of compliance of this requirement be enclosed with a refiled hard copy."

The subject of the same email mandatorily needs to carry the petition name and the dairy number which is further contained with specific verification.
“Soft copy of the petition and the accompanying documents in Diary No.....”
“The soft copy of petition- and the accompanying documents in ……….pages are a true and complete copy of the petition and the document filed in physical form.”

The order further stated at point 6 that an acknowledged mandatory receipt of the soft copies of the petition and a verified email to be sent by Additional Registrar (I-B) Incharge. The order to have an immediate effect.
