Supreme Court dictated the order to extend the term of Mr.O.P Gupta, a judicial member of Delhi State Consumer Redressal Commission on Aug 4, 2020.
An application was filed by Delhi state and District consumer courts Practitioner's welfare association for directing the respondent to make the appointment of vacant posts in the consumer forum. In addition to that application sought for granting an extension of the term of Shri 0.P Gupta as member till appointment are made
The court stated that counsel for the petitioner is permitted to inform the learned Advocate on Record for the respondents about the next date of hearing
Taking note of all the aforesaid contentions division bench compromising of Justice Nageshwara Rao and Justice S Ravindra Bhat stated that the term Judicial member, State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Delhi is extended for a further period of 6 months.

Delhi State Consumer Redressal Commission:
“The Consumer Protection Bill, 1986 seeks to provide for better protection of the interests of consumers and for the purpose, to make provision for the establishment of consumer councils and other authorities for the settlement of consumer disputes and for matter connected therewith. These objects are sought to be promoted and protected by the Consumer Protection Council to be established at the Central and State level
The Consumer Protection Act provides for the establishment of Dispute Resolution Authorities at the District level, State level, and National level. In terms of the provisions contained in Section 9 of the Act, at the State level, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has established a State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, known as ‘State Commission’, which is headed by a retired Judge of the High Court.
At present Hon'ble Justice, Ms. Sangita Dhingra Sehgal is the President of the State Commission. There are three Benches functioning in the State Commission Bench No.1 is presided by the Hon'ble President, Bench No.2 is presided by Shri O.P. Gupta, Member (Judicial) and Bench No.3 are presided by Shri Anil Srivastava, Members (General).”
