The bench comprised of Justices K Vinod Chandran and MR Anitha. A petition was filed by the parents of the prisoner. They accused the prison officials of having torched their son and they got to know about it when they were not allowed to visit him. The court directed the Thiruvananthapuram ADJ-II to visit the Central prison along with the Inspector General of Police and two medical officers to ensure whether the accusations are correct, without any delay. The case was later heard in-Chamber as the report on the matter by the Additional District Judge was not received by the time of the second hearing in the evening.
The prisoner’s status was ascertained by the Judges over a telephonic conversation with the Aditional District Judge. it was told that the Tittu (the prisoner) alleged that the officials had beaten him at the back of his chest. This was confirmed by the Medical officers who examined that there were wounds and signs of renal injury. They recommended that he be shifted to a medical facility. On the basis of the advice by the medical officers, Tittu was shifted to a Medical college Hospital. The High Court admitted the petition by the parents of the prisoner and also ordered an inquiry by the Inspector General of Police for which the report has to be submitted by Saturday to the HC.
