Air Pollution is an increasing cause of concern in India. Due to the increase in population, it is necessary to differentiate the vehicles responsible for causing the pollution. Vehicular emissions in Delhi has reached nearly three times to 7.6 million from 2.2 million over a period of 24 years. It is necessary to take some steps to curb the pollution.
The Supreme Court has directed the hologram-based color code stickers to be put on vehicles for the purpose of identifying the type of fuel being used in vehicles- Light blue for petrol or CNG and orange for diesel vehicles. Further, it was also suggested by the Supreme Court that the green stickers for hybrid vehicles will also be used. The hybrid vehicles were to be further clubbed with the electric vehicles.
It was urged before the Court by the Toyota that the hybrid vehicles are not that polluting as compared to the other vehicles. The Supreme Court said that the order regarding the stickers to be imposed should be implemented in Delhi by October 2. Further, the Bench has ordered that the Indian Oil Corporation should carry out the studies to use a mixture of Hydrogen and CNG as a fuel for buses.
