THE BIHAR OFFICIAL LANGUAGE ACT, 1950
(This Act received the assent of the Governor on the 13th November 1950 and the assent was first published is the Bihar Gazette of the 29th November 1950.)
An Act to Provide for the Adoption of Hindi In Devanagari Script as the Language to be used for the official purposes of the State of Bihar.
Whereas it is expedient to provide for the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as the language to be used for official purposes of the State of Bihar;
It is hereby enacted as follows:--
1. Short title, extent and commencement. ---
(1) This Act may be called the Bihar Official Language Act, 1950.
(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Bihar.
(3) It shall come intoforce on such date is the State Government may by notification appoint for different parts of the State.
Provided that the date or dates appointed by the State Government under this subsection in respect of any of parts of the State shall not be later than seven years from the date on which this Act with the assent thereto of the competent authority is first published in the official Gazette.
2. Official language. ---Subject to the provisions of Articles 346, 347 and 348 of the Constitution of India, the language to be used for the official purposes of the State shall be Hindi in Devanagari script.
