THE BIHAR PANCHAYAT RAJ (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2006
An Act to amend the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act, 2006 (Bihar Act 6, 2006)
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Bihar in the fifty seventh year of the Republic of India as follows :
1. Short title, extent and commencement |-
(1) This Act may be called the Bihar Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Act, 2006.
(2) It shall extend to the whole of the State of Bihar.
(3) It shall come into force at once.
2. Amendment of Section 2 of the Bihar Act 6, 2006 :-
Section 2 (a n) of the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act, 2006 shall be substituted by the following:-
"(a n) "Zila Parishad" means Panchayat at the District Level constituted under this Act."
3. Amendment of Section 167 of the Bihar Act 6, 2006 :-
Sub-section (2)(c) of Section 167 of the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act, 2006 shall be substituted by the following :-
"(c) Such number of persons, not less than four-fifth of the total number of members of Committee as may be specified by the Government, elected in the prescribed manner from amongst the members of the Zila Parishad, Nagar Panchayat and Councillors of the Municipal Corporation and the Municipal Councils in the district, in proportion to the ratio between the population of the rural areas and of the urban areas in the district under the direction, supervision and control of the State Election Commission.
