TAMIL NADU PANCHAYATS (FOURTH AMENDMENT) ACT, 2008

An Act further to amend the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1994.
Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Tamil Nadu in the Fifty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows::—
1. Short title and commencement.— (1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Fourth Amendment) Act, 2008.
(2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint. (Act came into force on 18.6.2008 — See 2008 (2) CTAR at page 2.3)
2. Amendment of Section 165.— In Section 165 of the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1994 (T.N. Act 21 of 1994) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), sub-section (2) shall be omitted.
3. Insertion of new Section 166-A.— After Section 166 of the principal Act, the following Section shall be inserted, namely :—
"166-A. Annual report of the functioning of Panchayats.—The Government shall lay on the table of the Legislative Assembly, an annual report on the functioning of the panchayats in the State".
