Delhi BJP leader filed a criminal defamation complaint against congress leader Shashi Tharoor on his scorpion remark. The congress leader in October last year during his Bangalore literature festival speech said that “PM Narendra modi is like a scorpion sitting on a Shivaling”. On which the BJP leader Rajeev Babbar said the comment hurt religious sentiments of him and other Shiva devotee who are in India and outside the country.
The complaint was filed with charges related to defamation under Sections 499 and 500 of IPC. The complainant has accused shashi of making deliberate statement which outraged the religious feelings of lord shiva devotees by insulting their religious beliefs.
However, tharoor denied all such allegations by tweeting that those remarks comparing PM to a scorpion was not made my by him but were already available in public domain from last 6 year. Tharoor explained such remark was made by an unnamed RSS leader to a journalist. Those alrealy made remarks was merely quoted him during his speech. He had said during his speech that “There is an extraordinarily striking metaphor expressed by an unnamed RSS source to a journalist which I quote, in which they express their frustration with their inability to curb Mr Modi. The man says Modi is like a scorpion sitting on a Shivaling. You cannot remove him with a hand and you cannot hit it with a chappal either."
The additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal was hearing the matter after which he issued summon to Shashi tharoor.
