The National Green Tribunal has directed the District Magistrate to take action in a complaint of noise pollution by the restaurants in Dehradun. It has been stated that the restaurant by the name of King's Harbor Restro & Lounge and Aura Kitchen & Spirits has installed a loud speaker which continues beyond 10 pm.
According to the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, it is said that,a loud speaker or a public address system shall not be used except after obtaining written permission from the authority. These loudspeakers should not be used at night except in a closed premises like auditoriums and conference rooms or during a public emergency. The State Government is responsible for reducing noise pollution, and along with that permit the use of loud speakers or public address system and the like during night hours (between 10.00 p.m. to 12.00 midnight) during any cultural or religious festive occasion of a limited duration which does not extend beyond fifteen days in one year. The noise level of the loud speaker should not extend beyond 10 dB (A) above the ambient noise standards for the area or 75 dB (A) whichever is lower. Lastly, the peripheral noise level of a privately owned sound system or a sound producing instrument shall not, at the boundary of the private place, exceed by more than 5 dB (A).
