National Green Tribunal on 12/09/2019 passed an order in the matter of Compliance of MSW Rules, 2016 i.e. regarding the compliance of Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and other important issues related to environment.
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has filed reports on various matters, wherein a report on the “Annual Environment Plan” for the whole country was also published. These reports were also submitted by the State and were prepared by the State Level Committees.
On enquiring from the CPCB on the future course of action in the present matter, the Tribunal found that state level reports are not complete for want of sufficient information from the states and Union Territories (UTs). Information is required to be submitted in terms of following thematic areas:
The NGT in its order directed the Chief Secretaries of all the States and the Union Territories to submit the required information to CPCB in the specified format mentioned in the order. The information shall be submitted with regard to above thematic areas in the following terms:
The Chief Secretaries have been asked to submit compliance reports on whether any model cities and villages have been made environmentally compliant within a month or not. The case is now listed to be considered on 05/12/2019.
