Allowance from Delhi Government to Open Liquor Shop and Sell the Old Beer Stock Which Will Expire by July 31st

The Third time relief granted by the Delhi Government in the state to all the bars, pubs, clubs, and restro – bars on July 11 to sell their stock of beers before it expires till date 31st July. In Delhi, the shelf period of beer is six months. To stop the wastage of investment of people the excise department permitted the licensed bars, clubs, resto-bars to sell their liquors which will expire till 31st July to the licensed vendors of the liquor shops. The official said that it is aimed at minimizing the financial losses to these enterprises.

These types of enterprises were shut down from the 25th March due to lockdown in the whole country due to COVID - 19 and there was no revenue generated for the government, this is the type of business from where the government gets a good amount of tax to run the state.

The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) has welcomed the Government’s move. "We welcome the decision of the Delhi government to allow bars to sell beer that is getting old. This is what we had recommended to the government in May. The hospitality sector is under great stress and this may help recover some investment stuck in stock,” Vinod Giri the Director-General of Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies said.

The excise department said that “Hotels, Clubs, and other Restro- bars licensees have to create an inventory using the barcode of all the beer stock which has to be transferred to the licensed vendors”. It was also added that the licensees from hotels, restro – bars, or clubs have to submit the bar code list of the beer stock and agreement letter obtained from licensed vendors to the excise department with the request for allowing the transfer of beer stock.

The Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) also asked permission to start the sale of liquor as well because a large amount of investment has been made by the investors needed more relief to survive and liquor also generates a good income for these establishments as well as the government.

In the previous order on June 26th, Delhi Government had allowed the stock clearance of beer which will be expiring by July 15.

The liquor shops in the states like Jharkhand and Odisha are also delivering alcohol through the food and beverage delivery app like Zomato and Swiggy. According to the Global marketing head of the, “Bira 91” stated that this will increase the rise in female customers.

Conclusion

Alcohol is a great attraction for the majority of the people which also creates a great income to the government of the state as well as the owners of these enterprises. These shops of liquors can’t stay shut for more than 1 or 1.5 months because of the addiction as well as revenue generation. People use liquors in small parties or get-togethers. Though the Delhi excise department allowed the liquor shops to sell the stock of beer before the investment expires and the businessmen as well as the state government would face great loss.
