A status report has also been sought from the Home Ministry, Union of India regarding their role in controlling the current COVID-19 condition within the country and particularly Delhi.
The orders came during the hearing of the Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No(s). 7/2020 filed in June to look into the matter of improper treatment of the COVID-19 patients and the mishandling of the dead bodies in the hospitals etc. In the hearing today, the 3 judges bench of the Supreme Court took notice of the great spike in the cases of the COVID-19 in the recent days in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Gujarat and also sought reports of the previous orders of the judgment from the center and state counsels. In the June order, the Supreme Court had issued 11 guidelines for the states and the union and also asked for the reports regarding the adherence of those guidelines and the current testing rates. The SC lauded the report of Delhi for its transparency which was filed in response to the previous orders on the COVID-19 lapses within their territory.
The Supreme Court also took into consideration the reports of projected worsening of the COVID-19 situation in the coming month of December and asked all the states to be prepared for the same and ordered to take immediate steps to combat the situation.
